One last note on Walter de la Mare..he "toiled away",as one biographer said, for an oil company as a statistician for eighteen years while "struggling to bring up a family". I assume he wrote in the evening and on weekends. And then there was the poet Dr. William Carlos Williams, Banker Kenneth Grahame (WIND IN THE WILLOWS), toll collector and painter Henri Rousseau. Interestingly, I just downloaded a song by Jeff Bridges from KCRW's Today's Top Songs and was impressed. Actor...singer....why not?
