love this new and very strange skittles commercial....just in time for the first day of school....God protect our teens from
hungry advisors and odd unibrows!

speaking of skittles, my kids love them...so I thought I'd surprise them with these skittle meringues after school today...

realsimple had a really simple recipe...I had never made meringues before, so there was a bit of a learning curve...I eventually figured out what a stiff peak was.

and being no coward in the kitchen, I also tried making chocolate chip meringues from

my favorite food blog, smittenkitchen...we'll see how they turn out after two hours in the oven!

this was what the sunrise looked like this morning!  seems mother nature was looking forward to the kids going back to school too!!
